Sub Tuum Praesidium

The “Sub Tuum Praesidium” is one of the oldest known prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary, dating back to the 3rd century. It’s a beautiful, humble plea for Mary’s protection and intercession.

Here is the traditional text in both Latin and English:

Latin (Original)

Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genetrix:
nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus nostris, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta.

Amen

English

We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God;
do not despise our petitions in our necessities,
but deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Amen
