Bishop and Servant of the Poor (d. 661)
St. Landry was the Bishop of Paris in the 7th century, known for his deep compassion and care for the poor and sick. During a time of famine, he sold many of the Church’s treasures to feed the hungry—putting mercy and charity above material wealth.
He is best known for founding Hôtel-Dieu, the first hospital in Paris, which still stands today as a place of healing. St. Landry saw Christ in the suffering and believed that serving the poor was the highest expression of Christian love.
He died around the year 661 and remains a symbol of Christian charity and generosity.
Prayer
St. Landry, kind shepherd and friend to the poor,
pray for us, that we may have hearts open to the needs of others,
and courage to give of ourselves in love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
