One Minute Catechism
Question: What is an oath?
Answer: An oath is the calling upon God to witness the truth of what we say. When we take an oath, we appeal to God’s holiness as the guarantor of our honesty, and therefore it must never be taken falsely or lightly.
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”
