Happy Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe

On December 12, the Church celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most beloved Marian titles in the world. In 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. She came as a tender mother dressed in radiant garments, standing upon the moon, and surrounded by heavenly light offering consolation and hope to a people in pain and division.

Mary spoke to Juan Diego with gentleness, calling him “my little son”, and asked that a church be built where she could show her love and compassion to all. As a sign, she caused roses to bloom in winter and placed her miraculous image on Juan Diego’s tilma. This sacred image still perfectly preserved today continues to draw millions to renewed faith in Christ.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is honored as Patroness of the AmericasMother of the Unborn, and a powerful intercessor for all who seek her help. Her message is simple yet profound: “Am I not here, who am your Mother?”
