Matthew 23:11-12
“The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Joel 2:12-13 – “Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning! Rend your hearts, not your garments…”)
Short Reflection
On this day of Lent, Jesus teaches us the paradox of the Kingdom: true greatness is not found in titles, praise, or power, but in humble service. The scribes and Pharisees loved places of honor and respectful greetings, yet their hearts were far from God. Jesus calls us to the opposite—quiet, sincere service without seeking recognition.
Lent is a time to examine our motives. Do we pray, fast, or give alms to be seen by others, or to draw closer to Christ? He humbled Himself completely, becoming a servant even to death on the cross (Philippians 2:7-8). By imitating His humility, we allow God to lift us up in His way and time.
Today, ask: Where am I seeking my own glory instead of God’s? How can I serve someone quietly, without expecting thanks?
Prayer for Day 12
Lord Jesus,
You humbled Yourself, taking the form of a servant and accepting even death on a cross.
Yet so often I seek recognition, approval, or praise from others.
Forgive my pride and self-centeredness. Teach me true humility—to serve without seeking reward, to love without counting the cost, and to lead by becoming the least.
During this Lenten journey, rend my heart, not just my outward actions.
Help my life reflect quiet faithfulness and sincere service to You and to those around me. May I decrease, so that You may increase.
Through Your holy name we pray.
Amen.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…
May this day draw you deeper into Christ’s humble heart. Keep going—He is with you.

Leave us your prayers…
