On September 24, the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Mercy, a beautiful devotion that reminds us of Mary’s maternal love and her constant intercession for those who turn to her with faith.
Mary is the Mother of Mercy because she leads us to Jesus Christ, who is the source of all mercy and salvation. As our spiritual mother, she invites us to place our worries, suffering, families, and needs into the hands of her Son.
When we are struggling, we can confidently turn to Mary and ask her to pray for us. She does not take the place of Christ; rather, she lovingly leads us closer to Him.
A Prayer to Our Lady of Mercy
Our Lady of Mercy, Mother of Jesus and our loving Mother,
look with compassion upon us and upon all those who seek your help.
Bring our prayers before your divine Son, Jesus Christ.
Intercede for our families, our loved ones, the sick, the suffering, and all those who are in need of God’s mercy.
Help us to trust in God’s loving Providence, especially when life becomes difficult.
Teach us to imitate your humility, faith, purity, and love.
Our Lady of Mercy, pray for us.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
