The Importance of Baptism and First Communion

Two of the oldest traditions in the Catholic Church are baptism and first communion. While these concepts are similar to other religions, baptism in the Catholic Church is the entryway into a new life in Holy connection with God. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, baptism is renewal by the Holy Spirit and enlightenment. With such a profound connection to the Lord to be had, there are still many people falling away from the choice to bring their young ones to be presented for baptism, or to church at all. Let’s take a look at some of the top reasons accepting the baptism invitation is so important.

Completes the First Steps in the Seven Sacraments

The Seven Sacraments are rites of passage in the Catholic Church. A “rite”, by definition, is a traditional Holy ceremony. A Sacrament is a rite that brings the participant into a closer connection with God and the Holy Spirit. The first of the Seven Sacraments is baptism. Then, the next is Eucharist, the Last Supper or Communion, in order to connect with the Divinity of Christ.

Recognition and Welcoming into the Christian Community

Joining the Catholic Church by completing these acts of obedience welcomes a member into a fellowship of worship, friendship, and family. Just as partaking in the Eucharist represents the blood and body of Christ, it is also a symbol of joining the Body of Christ—the Church. The tradition of baptism and first communion are a sense of belonging and a lasting connection to the Christian faith.

Encourages Religious Education

It has been a longstanding tradition for children to complete Religious Education Classes before they have First Communion. While baptism symbolically covers a person with new life and the Holy Spirit and connects the individual to God and His people, accepting the First Communion invitation is a person’s first step as making the connection to God as a more mature Christian. It is important to complete these steps to gain more understanding about the Catechism of the Catholic Church and how to follow a path to a deeper connection with God.

Stronger Spiritual Connection

A stronger spiritual connection to God through the Holy Spirit, in conjunction with the promise of life in the Holy Kingdom of Heaven, is the ultimate reason for baptism and communion. The First Communion is a representation of the commitment and devotion to the life of a Christian.

Build a Lifelong Relationship with God

Often a strong spiritual connection starts at a young age but dwindles away in adulthood. This happens for many reasons as adults search for worldly gains of careers, wealth, and other personal goals. With baptism into the Holy and Divine family of God and communion in the blood of Christ believers have a firm foundation that can last a lifetime if practiced and studied. Despite the need to achieve in life, the eternal life with the Everlasting God is what will remain. Taking the initial steps to achieve this destiny begins with baptism and first communion.

Once you have made the decision to follow god you will feel his love and will want to share these big moments with friends and family.  So you will want to send first communion invitations to make sure everyone can help join in on such a joyous celebration.
