Priest and Defender of Truth (1419–1479)
St. John of Sahagún was a Spanish Augustinian priest known for his deep holiness, powerful preaching, and defense of truth and justice. Born in Sahagún, Spain, he became a priest after years of study and entered the Augustinian order where he lived a life of humility and prayer.
John was especially devoted to the Blessed Sacrament, often spending hours in adoration. He preached with boldness against sin and corruption, even when it meant speaking out against powerful people. His sermons brought many back to the faith and helped renew the spiritual life of his city, Salamanca.
He was also known for performing miracles during his life, healing the sick, and comforting the suffering. Despite opposition and threats, he remained faithful to the truth of the Gospel.
Saint John of Sahagún died in 1479 and was canonized in 1690 by Pope Alexander VIII.
