What is Blessed Maria Romero Meneses known for?
Blessed María Romero Meneses (1902–1977) was born in Rivas, Nicaragua. In 1923 she entered the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, taking the name María Rosa. Sent to Costa Rica, she worked tirelessly among the city’s poorest neighborhoods—teaching catechism, visiting the sick, and founding schools, healthcare centers, and homes for the elderly and disabled.
Known for her humble joy and unwavering trust in Divine Providence, María organized parish “missions” that brought both spiritual formation and practical aid to thousands. She stood by families in difficulty, encouraged married couples in sacramental grace, and inspired lay catechists to share the Gospel in word and deed.
Beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2002, Blessed María Romero Meneses remains a model of faith made visible through service, showing how ordinary people can live extraordinary charity in everyday life.

O God, through the example of Blessed María Romero Meneses, grant us the grace to serve the poor with joy, to teach Your Word with courage, and to trust always in Your loving Providence. May her intercession strengthen families, inspire catechists, and draw all to Your heart. Amen.
