Day 5: St. Thomas Aquinas Novena

Meditation / Reflection
St. Thomas Aquinas had an intense, burning love for the Holy Eucharist. He spent countless hours in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, drawing wisdom and strength from Christ’s Real Presence. He composed some of the Church’s most beautiful Eucharistic hymns (Pange LinguaTantum ErgoAdoro Te Devote), expressing deep faith in the mystery of transubstantiation and the sacrament as the source of all grace and union with God.

Near the end of his life, after a profound mystical experience, he declared his writings “straw” compared to the divine truths revealed in contemplation—truths he first encountered in prayerful encounter with the Eucharistic Lord.

Reflect today: In our busy lives, do we approach the Eucharist with the same reverence and hunger that Thomas did? The Blessed Sacrament is not just a symbol but Christ Himself—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—offering us life, forgiveness, and transformation. Like Thomas, let us allow time in adoration to inflame our hearts with love for Jesus, dispel doubts or lukewarmness, and overflow into charity toward others. As he taught, true knowledge of God grows through loving communion with Him in the sacrament, leading us to live more fully for His glory.

Pray Day 5

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Sweet Jesus, Body and Blood most Holy, be the delight and pleasure of my soul, my strength and salvation in all temptations, my joy and peace in every trial, my light and guide in every word and deed, and my final protector in death. Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.

Amen
