On May 15, the Catholic Church honors Saint Isidore the Farmer, a humble and faithful farmer from Spain known for his deep trust in God, charity toward the poor, and simple life of holiness.
Born near Madrid in the 12th century, Isidore worked as a laborer on a farm for most of his life. Despite long hours of hard work, he always placed God first, attending Mass daily and spending time in prayer. According to tradition, angels sometimes helped complete his work in the fields while he prayed.
Saint Isidore was also known for his generosity to the poor and his compassion for those in need. He lived a simple life with his wife, Saint María de la Cabeza, who is also honored as a saint.
Today, Saint Isidore is the patron saint of farmers, rural communities, and agricultural workers. His life reminds us that holiness can be found in ordinary daily work when it is done with love, humility, and faith in God.
Prayer:
Saint Isidore the Farmer, pray for us, that we may work faithfully, care for those in need, and always place God first in our daily lives. Amen.
