What is St. Rita Known for?

St. Rita of Cascia (1381–1457) is one of the Church’s most beloved saints, often called the Patroness of Impossible Causes. Born in Roccaporena, Italy, she longed for a religious life but was married at a young age to a harsh and violent man. Through her patience, kindness, and prayer, she eventually brought peace to her difficult marriage. After her husband’s tragic death and the death of her two sons, Rita entered the Augustinian convent in Cascia, where she lived a life of deep prayer, penance, and charity.

She is especially known for receiving a partial stigmata—a wound on her forehead resembling the crown of thorns—while meditating on Christ’s Passion. Miracles were reported both during her life and after her death.

St. Rita was canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII.

On the 3rd day of my Novena to st Rita (not this one another Novena to her). A miracle. I was praying to be able to forgive as she does. She allowed me to know who i’m not forgiven. I went from 20 years of resenting my aunts for trying to steel my family home to in a moment realizing my fault in the matter and forgiving them instantly. i cant explain it. in my mind within seconds everything changed. I realized my faults and short comings. in a second i went from blaming them, to wanting to only seek their forgiveness and loving them completely. I saw things as they are. its so amazing i don’t even care about the house anymore. I’m so happy to have this wisdom, freedom, and love for them that its worth all the castles in the world to me! i was not expecting any of this. I didn’t even think about them. this was in a dark place in my mind completely hidden. Thank you Saint Rita I love you!
