Day 7: Octave of Easter

Easter week is almost over. After seven days of joy, alleluias, and Gospel stories of the Risen Jesus appearing to His friends, we arrive at the quiet edge of something new.

The Gospel today (Mark 16:9–15) is like a mini highlight reel of the Resurrection. Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, who runs to tell the others. They don’t believe her. Then He appears to two more disciples—still, they don’t believe. Finally, Jesus shows up in the middle of their doubt, rebukes their unbelief, and commissions them anyway. “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.”

He knows their hearts are messy. He knows their faith isn’t perfect. And still—He sends them.

This Is How God Works

That’s what strikes me about this day: Jesus doesn’t wait for them to have it all figured out. He meets them in their uncertainty and gives them a mission anyway.

How human is that? To hesitate. To doubt. To hear good news and not know what to do with it. And yet, God doesn’t give up on us for being unsure. He works through our hesitation. He draws near, again and again, until we recognize His voice.

And when we do—He invites us to take part in something bigger than ourselves.

The Quiet Before the Mercy

This Saturday is like a breath between Easter Sunday and Divine Mercy Sunday. We’ve heard the stories. We’ve sung the songs. And now we sit, quietly, at the end of the octave, with hearts still catching up to what all of this means.

It’s okay if you don’t have it all together yet. Maybe your Easter joy feels more like Easter hope right now—fragile, flickering, but still real. That’s enough. Jesus is patient. And He’s not done with you yet.

Prayer:

Risen Lord, thank You for meeting me in the quiet. Thank You for believing in me, even when my faith is shaky. Give me the courage to say yes to You—not because I’m ready, but because You are faithful. Amen.
