When Mercy Meets the Mess
Today is the final day of the Easter Octave. We’ve spent eight days living in the aftershock of resurrection — not just remembering that Jesus rose, but sitting in the truth that He still lives.
And now, we land right here: Divine Mercy Sunday.
It’s not a coincidence that the Church, in her wisdom, puts mercy at the very center of the Easter aftermath. Because if we’re honest — joy is beautiful, but mercy is what we actually need.
He Shows Up Anyway
The Gospel today (John 20:19–31) is all about showing up.
The disciples are still hiding behind locked doors. They’ve seen the empty tomb. They’ve heard the stories. But fear has a grip on them. Doubt has a home.
And then… Jesus comes through the locked doors.
He doesn’t scold. He doesn’t say, “Where were you?” He says:
“Peace be with you.”
Then He breathes on them. Gives them the Holy Spirit. And right then and there, He gives them the authority to forgive sins. The first gift of the Resurrection is mercy.
Think about that. He could’ve offered anything — strength, strategy, even vengeance. But what He gives is a way back. A way home.
Today’s Invitation
Today is not about being perfect. It’s about showing up anyway.
It’s about letting mercy meet the mess — and trusting that Jesus isn’t waiting to lecture you, but to love you.
Maybe this is the day you come back.
Maybe this is the day you finally forgive yourself.
Maybe this is the day you open your heart — even just a crack — and whisper, “Jesus, I trust in You.”
A Prayer for Divine Mercy Sunday
Jesus, I don’t always feel worthy. I don’t always believe easily. But today, I ask for Your mercy to meet me where I am. For every place in me that’s afraid or ashamed or numb — come in. Breathe peace into me again. And help me trust that You are always reaching, always waiting, always loving.
Amen.

Leave us your prayers…
