Feast Day: October 11
Patron Saint of: Nurses and the sick
Short Biography:
Saint Maria Soledad was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1826. From a young age, she felt called to serve the poor and the suffering. Guided by God’s providence, she founded the Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick, a religious congregation dedicated to caring for the ill in their homes—day and night, free of charge.
Despite many hardships and misunderstandings, Mother Soledad remained humble, patient, and completely trusting in God. Her life was a living example of mercy and love in action. She died in 1887 and was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1970.
Prayer:
Lord, through the example of Saint Maria Soledad,
inspire us to serve the sick and suffering with compassion and faith.
May we see Your face in all who are in need.
Amen.
