History of the 54-Day Rosary Novena
The 54-Day Rosary Novena is one of the most powerful devotions in the Catholic Church. It began in 1884 in Naples, Italy, through a young girl named Fortunata (“Fortuna”) Agrelli. She was gravely ill and suffered for a long time despite many prayers and medical help.
Desperate for healing, Fortuna and her family began praying the Rosary daily, asking the Blessed Virgin Mary for help. On February 16, 1884, Our Lady appeared to her seated on a high throne surrounded by angels, holding the Divine Child on her lap, and carrying a Rosary.
The Blessed Mother said to Fortuna:
“Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary in petition, and three novenas in thanksgiving, even if the request has not yet been granted.”

After completing the six novenas (54 days total), Fortuna was miraculously cured. This powerful devotion soon spread throughout the world and became known as the “Miraculous 54-Day Rosary Novena.”

“Hail, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, my Mother Mary, hail! At thy feet I humbly kneel to offer thee a Crown of Roses—snow-white buds to remind thee of thy joys, each bud recalling to thee a holy mystery; each ten bound together with my petition for a particular grace. O Holy Queen, dispenser of God’s graces, and Mother of all who call upon thee, thou canst not look upon my gift and fail to see its binding. As thou receive my gift, so wilt thou receive my petition; from thy bounty thou wilt grant me the favor I so earnestly and trustingly seek. I despair of nothing that I ask of thee. Show thyself my Mother!”
Thanksgiving Prayer (Days 28–54)

At thy feet I gratefully kneel to offer thee a Crown of Roses—snow-white buds to remind thee of thy joys, each bud recalling to thee a holy mystery; each ten bound together with my petition for a particular grace. O Holy Queen, dispenser of God’s graces, and Mother of all who call upon thee, thou canst not look upon my gift and fail to see its binding.
