Feast Day: September 29
History & Significance
On September 29, the Church honors the three Archangels named in Sacred Scripture: St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael.
- St. Michael (“Who is like God?”) is the great defender of the Church and leader of the heavenly hosts in the battle against Satan (Revelation 12:7–9).
- St. Gabriel (“God is my strength”) is the messenger of God’s most important announcements, including the Annunciation to Mary (Luke 1:26–38).
- St. Raphael (“God heals”) appears in the Book of Tobit as the guide and healer, bringing God’s help and comfort.
This feast celebrates the mission of the Archangels as servants and messengers of God, who protect, guide, and assist us on our journey to eternal life. They remind us of God’s nearness, His care for His people, and the unseen spiritual realities at work for our good.
Reflection: The Archangels teach us to trust God’s power, listen to His Word, and rely on His healing mercy.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You have given us the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael
to guide, protect, and strengthen us.
Grant that, with their help, we may walk faithfully in Your light,
and reach the glory of heaven.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
