About Saints Perpetua and Felicity
Saints Perpetua and Felicity were Christian martyrs who died in Carthage (modern-day Tunisia) around A.D. 203during the persecution of Emperor Septimius Severus.
St. Perpetua was a young noblewoman and mother of an infant son, while St. Felicity was a servant who was pregnant at the time of her imprisonment. Despite intense pressure to renounce their Christian faith, both women remained steadfast in their love for Christ.
Shortly before their execution, Felicity gave birth to a daughter. Together with several companions, they were condemned to die in the public arena, where they courageously accepted martyrdom for the sake of the Gospel.
Much of their story is preserved in The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity, one of the earliest surviving accounts of Christian martyrdom, believed to include Perpetua’s own prison diary.
Their feast day is celebrated each year on March 7, and they are honored as shining examples of courage, fidelity, and complete trust in God.
