Day 5 – Octave of Easter

“Do Not Be Afraid”

“Peace be with you.” But they were startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost.Luke 24:35–48

Reflection:

Have you ever been so overwhelmed or unsure that even good news feels scary?

That’s where the disciples were.
Jesus stood right in front of them—alive, glowing with peace—and their first reaction was fear.

They had seen Him die.
They were grieving, hiding, doubting.
And now… He’s back?

I get it. When something feels too good to be true, we brace for disappointment.
But Jesus doesn’t scold them.
He doesn’t roll His eyes or say, “You should’ve believed.”

Instead, He says:
“Peace be with you.”
He shows them His wounds.
He eats with them.
He proves: It’s really Me. I’m really here. And I’m not leaving you in fear.

Sometimes we’re still waiting for life to feel peaceful before we believe that peace is even possible.

But Easter reminds us:
Peace is not the absence of chaos — it’s the presence of Jesus.
Even when we’re startled, anxious, or full of questions, He shows up and says, “Peace. Be still. I’m here.”

Prayer:

Risen Jesus,
I admit it — sometimes I’m just like the disciples.
Even when You’re standing in front of me with open arms,
I hesitate. I overthink. I fear the unknown.

But You don’t push me away.
You step closer. You offer peace. You stay.

Give me the grace to welcome You — not just when things are clear and easy,
but when I’m unsure and afraid.
Show me Your wounds.
Remind me that You’re the same Jesus who died for me…
and now walks with me.

Let Your peace settle deep into my heart today.
I may not have all the answers —
but I want to trust that You’re here.
And You’re not going anywhere.

Amen.
