Saint Giovanni Battista de’ Rossi (1698–1764)
Saint Giovanni Battista de’ Rossi was an Italian priest known for his deep compassion for the poor, the sick, and the forgotten of Rome. Orphaned young and burdened with epilepsy, he overcame many personal struggles to become a beloved confessor and preacher. He tirelessly served in hospitals, prisons, and shelters—bringing comfort to those most in need. Despite his own physical suffering, he showed radiant joy and humility, seeing Christ in every soul he encountered.
He was canonized in 1881 by Pope Leo XIII and is remembered as a true “Apostle of Charity.”
