Saint of the Day: Saint Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi (1566–1607)

Brief Biography:
Born Caterina Lucrezia de’ Pazzi in Florence, Italy, Mary Magdalene entered the Carmelite convent at age nineteen. Known for her deep mystical experiences and fervent prayer life, she practiced radical self-denial—wearing a crown of thorns and a hair shirt—to share in Christ’s suffering. Her ecstasies drew many to repentance and renewal of faith. She died on May 25, 1607, and was canonized in 1669. Today, she is remembered as a model of contemplative prayer and zeal for the salvation of souls.

Prayer:

Dear Saint Mary Magdalene,
you surrendered completely to God’s love through prayer and penance.
Teach us to seek Christ with the same passion,
to embrace sacrifice for the good of others,
and to trust in the power of divine grace.
Pray for us, that we may live in true union with Jesus.
Amen.
