Saint of the Day – St. Joan of Arc

(May 30, 2025)

St. Joan of Arc

Virgin, Martyr, and Patroness of France (1412–1431)
Feast Day: May 30
Patron of: France, soldiers, those ridiculed for their faith

St. Joan of Arc is one of the most inspiring and courageous saints in the history of the Church. Born into a humble French family, she began hearing the voices of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret at a young age. These heavenly guides told her that she had a mission: to help save France and crown Charles VII as king during the Hundred Years’ War.

With extraordinary faith and bravery, Joan—only a teenager—led French troops into battle. Her leadership and holiness inspired her countrymen, and they began to believe victory was possible. She accomplished her mission, but was later captured, falsely accused of heresy, and burned at the stake at just 19 years old.

Joan forgave her enemies, holding a crucifix as she died. She was canonized in 1920 and remains a powerful example of faith, courage, and obedience to God’s voice.

Prayer

St. Joan of Arc, you heard God’s call and followed it fearlessly, even unto death. Help us to trust in His plan, to be brave in our faith, and to stand firm in truth, even when the world stands against us. Pray for us to be faithful, humble, and courageous. Amen.
