St. Boniface – Apostle of Germany

About St. Boniface:
St. Boniface, born around the year 675 in England, was a bold and faithful missionary who became known as the “Apostle of Germany.” His baptismal name was Wynfrid, but he took the name Boniface when he entered religious life. Filled with zeal for spreading the Gospel, he traveled to the Germanic lands where paganism still ruled.
Boniface worked tirelessly to preach Christ, reform the local Church, and bring unity with Rome. He is most famously remembered for chopping down the sacred oak of Thor, a bold act that proved the powerlessness of the old gods and led to countless conversions.
In 754, while preparing to confirm new converts, Boniface and his companions were martyred by a group of pagans. He died with the Gospel in one hand and a bishop’s staff in the other—a true witness to the faith.
Today, St. Boniface remains a powerful example of courage, missionary zeal, and unwavering love for the Church.

St. Boniface, fearless preacher of the Gospel, pray for us. Give us courage to stand for truth in a world full of confusion. Help us to love the Church as you did, even to the point of sacrifice. May your example lead us to trust in God above all. Amen.
