Patron of Youth
Feast Day: June 21
Short Biography:
Saint Aloysius Gonzaga was born in Italy in 1568 to a noble family. Though he was raised amid wealth and privilege, Aloysius felt called to a life of holiness from a young age. He renounced his inheritance and title, choosing instead to join the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) at age 17.
While studying in Rome, Aloysius devoted himself to prayer, humility, and caring for the sick during a plague outbreak. His compassion led him to personally tend to the suffering, and he eventually contracted the illness himself. He died at just 23 years old, joyfully offering his life in service to Christ.
Aloysius is remembered for his purity, charity, and deep devotion to God. He is the patron saint of young people, students, and seminarians.
Prayer:
