On August 5, the Church celebrates the Dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, one of the oldest and most important churches dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Built in the 5th century after the Council of Ephesus declared Mary to be the Mother of God, this basilica stands as a testament to Marian devotion throughout the centuries.
According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared in a dream to Pope Liberius and a Roman noble, asking for a church to be built in her honor. Miraculously, snow fell on the chosen site in Rome on the night of August 5, marking the location where the basilica now stands.
Prayer:
Holy Mary, Mother of God, help us to grow in faith and love, and guide us always closer to your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Leave us your prayers…
