Saint of the Day: Saint Hormisdas – Pope and Peacemaker

St. Hormisdas was Pope from 514 to 523 AD, known for his holiness, wisdom, and efforts to restore unity within the Church. Born in Italy, he was married and had a son before entering the priesthood—his son later became Pope Silverius.

During his papacy, St. Hormisdas worked tirelessly to heal the great schism between the Eastern and Western Churches caused by the spread of the heresy known as Monophysitism, which denied the full humanity of Christ. His diplomacy and faith led to the reunion of the Eastern Church with Rome, marking a significant victory for Christian unity.

St. Hormisdas is remembered as a peacemaker and defender of true doctrine, guiding the Church through difficult times with courage and humility.

Prayer:
St. Hormisdas, pray for unity in the Church and for leaders to be guided by truth and charity. Amen.
