Patronage: Converts, baptism, tailors, and those facing persecution for the faith.
Short Biography:
On August 29, the Church commemorates the Passion of Saint John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ. John courageously preached repentance and prepared the way for the Lord. He fearlessly defended the truth, even condemning the unlawful marriage of King Herod and Herodias. Because of his bold witness, John was imprisoned and ultimately beheaded at the request of Herodias’ daughter. His martyrdom reminds us of the cost of discipleship and the call to remain faithful to God’s truth, even unto death.
Prayer
O God, who willed that Saint John the Baptist
be the herald of Your Son’s coming and His martyr,
grant that we may follow his example of courage and fidelity,
proclaiming Your truth with love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
