Patronage:
Courage in faith and leadership within the Church.
Short Biography:
Saint Evaristus was the fifth Pope of the Catholic Church, succeeding Pope Anacletus around the year 97. Evaristus, born in Greece of a Jewish father named Juda, originally from the city of Bethlehem he guided the early Christian community during a time of persecution under the Roman Empire. Despite the danger, Pope Evaristus worked tirelessly to strengthen the faith of believers and to organize the growing Church in Rome.
Tradition tells us that he divided the city into parishes and appointed priests to care for the faithful — helping to form the structure of the Church we know today. His leadership and courage inspired Christians to remain steadfast in their love for Christ. Saint Evaristus is believed to have died a martyr around the year 107.
Prayer:
O God, who strengthened Saint Evaristus to shepherd Your Church with faith and courage, grant that we may remain firm in our devotion to Christ, even in times of trial. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
