Saint of the Day: Our Lady of Loreto

Our Lady of Loreto

On December 10, the Church honors Our Lady of Loreto, connected especially with the veneration of the Holy House, believed to be the home where the Virgin Mary lived during the years surrounding the Annunciation and the early life of Jesus.

While Mary was born in Jerusalem, Christian tradition holds that the Holy Family later lived in the humble home that became known as the Holy House of Nazareth. According to ancient accounts, this sacred house was miraculously transported by angels during the dangers of the Crusades, eventually coming to rest in Loreto, Italy, where it has been a place of devotion for centuries.

The Holy House invites us to reflect on the hidden, quiet years of the Holy Family—their work, prayer, obedience, and deep love. Our Lady of Loreto teaches us that God enters our everyday lives and sanctifies the ordinary, turning simple daily tasks into pathways of grace.

Short Prayer to Our Lady of Loreto

O Blessed Virgin Mary of Loreto,
Mother of the Holy Family,
draw me into the spirit of your holy home.
Teach me to welcome Jesus into every moment of my life.
Protect my family, strengthen our faith,
and help us imitate your humility, purity, and trust in God.
Our Lady of Loreto, pray for us. Amen.
