Saint of the Day: Saint Luigi Orione

Saint Luigi Orione was a humble Italian priest known for his deep love for the poor and his great trust in Divine Providence. He was born in 1872 in Pontecurone, Italy. From a young age he showed a strong desire to serve God and help those in need.

As a young man, Luigi studied for the priesthood and was greatly influenced by Saint John Bosco, who encouraged him to dedicate his life to caring for the poor and abandoned.

After becoming a priest, Father Orione founded the Little Work of Divine Providence, a religious congregation dedicated to serving the most vulnerable people in society. He opened orphanages, schools, and homes for the elderly and disabled, always trusting that God would provide what was needed.

Saint Luigi Orione believed strongly that charity and love for the poor were the heart of the Gospel. He often said that the Church must always reach out to those who suffer and bring them hope.

He died in 1940, leaving behind a powerful example of compassion, generosity, and complete trust in God.
