Saint of the Day: Saint Zita

Saint Zita (c. 1212–1272) was a humble servant in Lucca, Italy, known for her deep faith, kindness, and generosity to the poor. From a young age, she worked as a maid for a wealthy family, where she carried out even the smallest tasks with great love and devotion, offering everything to God.

Zita often rose early to attend Mass before beginning her work, and she used her position in the household to quietly help those in need. It is said that she would give bread to the poor, trusting that God would provide—and many stories tell of miracles that confirmed her faith.

Despite her simple life, Zita became a powerful witness of holiness in everyday duties. She reminds us that sanctity is not found only in great deeds, but in doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.

She was canonized in 1696 and is honored as the patron saint of domestic workers and servants.

Prayer:
Saint Zita, faithful servant of God,
teach us to serve with humility and love in all we do.
Help us to trust in God’s providence and to care for those in need.
Amen.
