Pope Saint Pius V (1504–1572) was a Dominican friar who became one of the great reforming popes of the Church. Known for his deep holiness and strong leadership, he worked tirelessly to renew the Church during a time of great challenge.
He promoted reverence in the liturgy and helped standardize the Roman Missal, strengthening unity in worship. Pius V also had a profound devotion to the Rosary. He called all Christians to pray for victory and protection during times of danger, most notably during the Battle of Lepanto, where Christians credited their victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
His life was marked by simplicity, prayer, and a deep love for truth. He courageously defended the faith and sought to guide the Church with wisdom and humility.
Pope Saint Pius V was canonized in 1712 and is remembered as a pope of reform, prayer, and unwavering faith.
