Saints Nereus and Achilleus were Roman soldiers who converted to Christianity and courageously gave up their positions rather than deny their faith in Jesus Christ. They are remembered as faithful martyrs of the early Church who chose eternal life with Christ over worldly honor and power.
According to Christian tradition, they served as guards or soldiers before embracing the Gospel and dedicating their lives to God. During a time of persecution against Christians, they remained steadfast in their faith and were eventually martyred for refusing to abandon Christ.
Their witness reminds us that true courage comes from faithfulness to God, even in difficult times.
