Saint of the Day: St. Pelagia of Antioch

Dear brothers in Christ,

Today, October 8, the Catholic Church commemorates St. Pelagia of Antioch, a virgin and martyr who gave her life for Christ.

St. Pelagia lived in the fourth century during the reign of the Roman Emperor Julian the Apostate, who attempted to restore pagan worship throughout the Empire. According to the ancient tradition preserved by the Church, Pelagia and other Christians courageously rejected the worship of false gods and remained faithful to Jesus Christ.

For her Christian faith, Pelagia was arrested, tortured, and ultimately put to death around the year 362. She chose to remain faithful to Christ rather than deny Him.

St. Pelagia’s life reminds us that conversion is possible and that God’s mercy can transform a person’s life completely. Her example also teaches us the importance of courage when our faith is tested.

She is especially remembered as an example of repentance, purity, courage, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Let us ask St. Pelagia to pray for us, that we may have the courage to reject sin, remain faithful to Christ, and persevere in our Catholic faith until the end.

Prayer to St. Pelagia

Glorious St. Pelagia,

You gave yourself completely to Christ and remained faithful to Him even when your faith was tested.

Pray for us, that we may have a sincere and repentant heart. Help us to turn away from sin and to love Jesus Christ above all things.

Obtain for us the grace of courage when we face trials, strength when we are tempted, and perseverance when our faith is tested.

May your example inspire us to remain faithful to Christ and His Holy Church throughout our lives.

St. Pelagia of Antioch, virgin and martyr, pray for us.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
