About the Solemnity of Corpus Christi,
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi, officially known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, was established in the 13th century to honor Jesus Christ’s Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist.
The feast was instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264 following the Eucharistic miracle of Bolsena and the visions of St. Juliana of Liège, who promoted a special feast dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament.
Corpus Christi reminds Catholics of Christ’s words at the Last Supper:
“This is my body… This is my blood.” (Matthew 26:26–28)
