About St. John the Baptist
St. John the Baptist is one of the greatest saints in the Catholic Church — a prophet chosen by God to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. He was the cousin of Jesus, miraculously born to Zechariah and Elizabeth in their old age. Even before his birth, John leapt in his mother’s womb when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited Elizabeth — a beautiful moment that shows his deep connection to the Savior.
John lived a life of simplicity and boldness. He wore camel’s hair, ate wild honey and locusts, and preached in the desert, calling people to repentance. His message was clear: “Prepare the way of the Lord” (Luke 3:4). He baptized people in the Jordan River, and when Jesus came to him, he humbly recognized Him as the Lamb of God.
John’s courage eventually led to his martyrdom. He was imprisoned and beheaded by King Herod for speaking the truth. Yet his legacy lives on — as the last and greatest prophet before Christ, and a model of humility, truth, and fearless faith.

Who was St. John the Baptist
