Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in 1647 in L’Hautecour. From an early age, she desired to dedicate her life completely to God and later entered the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary at Paray-le-Monial.
Between 1673 and 1675, she received a series of extraordinary visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In these revelations, Jesus showed His Heart burning with love for humanity and asked that devotion to His Sacred Heart be spread throughout the world. He also requested practices such as receiving Holy Communion on the First Fridays, making Holy Hours in prayer, and offering acts of reparation for sins.
Although many initially doubted her experiences, she remained humble and obedient. With the support of her spiritual director, Saint Claude de la Colombière, devotion to the Sacred Heart gradually spread throughout the Church.
St. Margaret Mary died in 1690 and was canonized in 1920. Today she is remembered as the great Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, inspiring countless Catholics to trust in Christ’s infinite love and mercy.
