About Our Lady of Knock
Our Lady of Knock is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary following the apparition that took place on August 21, 1879, in the village of Knock, County Mayo, Ireland. On a rainy evening, fifteen witnesses saw an extraordinary vision on the south gable wall of the parish church.
The apparition included the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. John the Evangelist, standing beside an altar on which appeared a Lamb and a Cross, symbolizing Jesus Christ’s sacrifice in the Holy Eucharist. Unlike many other Marian apparitions, no words were spoken. The silent vision lasted for about two hours despite the heavy rain, leaving the witnesses deeply moved by its message of hope, prayer, and faith.
The apparition was carefully investigated by Church authorities and has been officially recognized by the Catholic Church. Today, the Knock Shrine is one of the world’s most beloved Marian pilgrimage sites, welcoming pilgrims seeking healing, peace, and spiritual renewal.
