Saint Anne Novena

What is St. Anne known for?

St. Anne is honored as the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandmother of Jesus Christ. Though not mentioned in the Bible, her story comes to us from ancient Christian tradition and apocryphal writings, particularly the Protoevangelium of James.

According to tradition, Anne and her husband St. Joachim were a devout and holy couple who longed for a child. In their old age, after years of prayer and sorrow, God blessed them with a daughter—Mary—who would become the Mother of the Messiah.

St. Anne is a powerful intercessor for women longing for children, for grandparents, and for all families. She is a model of faith, patience, and quiet trust in God’s timing.

Day 1 – St. Anne Novena

Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Glorious St. Anne, we think of you as filled with compassion for those who invoke you and with love for those who suffer. Heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present affair which I commend to you under your special protection

(Mention your intention here…)

Deign to commend it to your daughter, our Blessed Lady and lay it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy conclusion. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace of one day beholding my God face to face.  With you and Mary and all the saints, may I praise and bless Him for all eternity. Amen. Good St Anne, mother of her who is our life, our sweetness and our hope, pray for me.

 Say 1: Our Father…

 Say 1: Hail Mary…

Say 1: Glory Be…

Novenas to Saint Anne have proven so powerful and effective that the English, especially in the days when they were still Catholic, called her Good Saint Anne. She is the spiritual and heavenly grandmother to all Christians. What good-hearted grandmother would ever turn away their grandchild they love.

I’m confused why this starts on July 17? Day 9 would then fall on July 25 which is the day before St. Anne’s feast day.

Novenas are the nine days BEFORE the feast day. Then on the feast day you may say a separate prayer and thank them for their intercession. So the feast day is really like the “tenth” day if you choose to say a prayer on the feast day. The feast day is not the ninth day. Ascension day was Thursday. The first Novena was the apostles praying for the coming of the Holy Spirit Friday through Saturday of the following week. On Sunday it came and they thanks God afterwards.
