About St. Bridget of Sweden
Saint Bridget of Sweden was born in 1303 into a noble family in Sweden. From an early age, she developed a deep love for God and experienced profound spiritual insights. As a young woman, she married Ulf Gudmarsson, and together they raised eight children, including Saint Catherine of Sweden, who also became a saint.
After her husband’s death, Bridget devoted herself entirely to prayer, penance, and works of charity. She founded the Order of the Most Holy Savior, also known as the Bridgettines, a religious community dedicated to prayer and service.
St. Bridget is especially known for the heavenly revelations she received concerning the Passion of Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the renewal of the Church. She courageously encouraged kings, rulers, and even popes to live faithfully according to the Gospel. Her writings have inspired Christians for centuries to deepen their love for Christ and embrace lives of holiness.
She died in 1373 and was canonized in 1391. In 1999, Pope John Paul II proclaimed her one of the Patron Saints of Europe. Today, St. Bridget continues to inspire the faithful through her example of prayer, family life, courage, and unwavering devotion to God.
