What is St. Rita Known for?

St. Rita of Cascia (1381–1457) is one of the Church’s most beloved saints, often called the Patroness of Impossible Causes. Born in Roccaporena, Italy, she longed for a religious life but was married at a young age to a harsh and violent man. Through her patience, kindness, and prayer, she eventually brought peace to her difficult marriage. After her husband’s tragic death and the death of her two sons, Rita entered the Augustinian convent in Cascia, where she lived a life of deep prayer, penance, and charity.

She is especially known for receiving a partial stigmata—a wound on her forehead resembling the crown of thorns—while meditating on Christ’s Passion. Miracles were reported both during her life and after her death.

St. Rita was canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII.

St. Rita, this truth was your strength in the trials of your life. But your strength joined with such heroism as to deserve to share, through the gift of a thorn, the redemptive suffering of our Savior. This special gift encourages me to place my trust in you. I pray to obtain through your intrcession the favor which I earnestly seek.

ST. Rita this is my first time to say this NOVENA even when am 50years. I believe in Miracles. Please intercede for my daughter who is having trouble with her recent marriage. Her husband claims that he is not ready for commitment even after the wedding. That’s the thought of the devil. Holy St. Rita, like you always do, pray for him to change this mindset, so that they can have a wonderful life like other young people, so that they can have children and glorify your name in Jesus and have a family and generations that will praise your intercession. I thank you for being there for us.
