About St. Alphonsa
St. Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception (1910–1946) was born Anna Muttathupadathu in Kerala, India. After losing her mother at a young age, she felt a deep calling to dedicate her life completely to God.
She entered the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, where she embraced a life of prayer, sacrifice, and service. Throughout her religious life, St. Alphonsa endured many painful illnesses and physical sufferings, offering them to God for the salvation of souls and in union with the Passion of Christ.
Despite her constant suffering, she remained joyful, humble, and full of charity. Her unwavering faith inspired countless people during her lifetime and continues to inspire Catholics around the world today.
St. Alphonsa was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 1986 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on October 12, 2008.
Her feast day is celebrated on July 28.
