About St. Blaise
St. Blaise was a bishop of Sebaste in Armenia during the fourth century. Before becoming a bishop, tradition holds that he practiced medicine, earning a reputation for compassion toward both the sick and the poor.
During the persecution of Christians under the Roman emperor Licinius, St. Blaise was arrested for refusing to renounce his faith. While imprisoned, he continued to comfort and heal those who came to him.
His most famous miracle occurred when he saved a young boy who was choking on a fish bone after the child’s desperate mother sought his help. This miracle led to his enduring patronage of those with throat illnesses and inspired the Church’s annual Blessing of the Throats.
St. Blaise remained faithful to Christ despite torture and was eventually beheaded for his faith around the year 316. His witness of courage and unwavering trust in God continues to inspire Catholics throughout the world.
