About St. Eusebius of Vercelli
St. Eusebius of Vercelli (c. 283–371) was one of the Church’s great bishops and defenders of the Catholic faith during the Arian controversy. As Bishop of Vercelli in northern Italy, he courageously upheld the divinity of Jesus Christ and stood firmly with St. Athanasius against the Arian heresy.
Because of his unwavering fidelity to the truth, Emperor Constantius II sent him into exile for several years. Despite suffering persecution, St. Eusebius never abandoned the Catholic faith. After returning from exile, he continued strengthening the Church, encouraging the faithful, and promoting a life of holiness among the clergy.
His feast day is celebrated on August 2.
