About St. Joan of Arc?
St. Joan of Arc (1412–1431), also known as the Maid of Orléans, was a young French peasant who believed she was called by God through the voices of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine of Alexandria, and St. Margaret of Antioch.
Obeying God’s call, she helped lead the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years’ War, most notably the lifting of the Siege of Orléans. Despite her remarkable achievements, Joan was captured, unjustly tried for her faith, and burned at the stake at the age of nineteen.
Twenty-five years after her death, the Church declared her trial unjust and cleared her name. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920.
