About St. John Henry Newman
St. John Henry Newman (1801–1890) was an English theologian, priest, educator, and one of the most influential Catholic thinkers of the nineteenth century. Raised in the Anglican tradition, he became a leader of the Oxford Movement, which sought to restore the ancient Christian traditions of the Church.
After years of prayer, study, and searching for the fullness of the Christian faith, Newman was received into the Catholic Church in 1845. He was later ordained a Catholic priest and founded the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in England>.
