What is Saint Josemaria Escriva known for?
St. Josemaría Escrivá (1902–1975) was a Spanish priest and the founder of Opus Dei, an apostolic movement dedicated to helping Christians seek holiness in their everyday lives. Ordained in 1925, he experienced a divine call in 1928 to show that “sanctity is possible in the middle of the world.” Through his preaching, teaching, and more than 40 books and articles—most famously The Way—he encouraged countless men and women to offer their work, family life, and daily routines as a path to union with Christ. Canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002, St. Josemaría’s legacy continues to inspire lay Catholics to transform ordinary moments into acts of love for God.
