About St. Margaret of Scotland
St. Margaret of Scotland was born around 1045 in Hungary to the English royal family while they were living in exile. After returning to Britain, she married King Malcolm III of Scotland, and together they raised eight children, several of whom became known for their holiness.
As queen, Margaret used her influence to promote the Catholic faith, reform the Church, and care for the poor. She founded churches, monasteries, and hospitals, welcomed pilgrims, and personally served those in need by feeding and clothing them. Despite her royal position, she lived a life of humility, prayer, and generosity.
St. Margaret died on November 16, 1093, only days after the deaths of her husband and one of her sons. She was canonized in 1250 by Pope Innocent IV. Today she is honored as the Patron Saint of Scotland, as well as a patron of families, widows, and those working for Christian unity and charitable works.
