About St. Valentine
St. Valentine was a Christian priest and martyr who lived in Rome during the 3rd century. At a time when Christianity was persecuted, he remained faithful to Christ and served the early Church with courage and compassion.
He was persecuted under Emperor Claudius II for his ministry and unwavering devotion to Christ, St. Valentine is remembered not simply as a symbol of romance, but as a witness to self-giving love rooted in Christ—a love willing to sacrifice everything for the truth of the Gospel.
According to tradition, St. Valentine ministered to Christians in secret and was especially known for blessing marriages, even when they were forbidden by the Roman authorities. Because of his faith and refusal to renounce Christ, he was imprisoned and eventually put to death around the year 269.
