Today, October 12, we honor Saint Carlo Acutis (1991–2006), a young Catholic whose life reminds us that holiness is possible at every age. Although he lived only fifteen years, his deep love for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and his desire to bring others closer to God made him an inspiring witness of faith.
The Life of Saint Carlo Acutis
Saint Carlo Acutis was born on May 3, 1991, in London, England, to an Italian family. He grew up in Milan, Italy, where he developed a special love for the Catholic faith. From a young age, Carlo showed a remarkable devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Holy Eucharist was at the center of his spiritual life. Carlo attended Holy Mass regularly and encouraged others to discover the beauty of being close to Jesus. He often spoke of the Eucharist as his way to heaven, and he believed that every person could become a saint by placing God first in life.
Carlo also had a talent for computers and technology. He used these gifts to create a website documenting Eucharistic miracles around the world. Rather than using technology only for entertainment, he sought to use it as a means of sharing the truth of the Catholic faith and helping others grow closer to Christ.
Despite his talents, Carlo remained humble and generous. He cared for the poor, helped those in need, and treated others with kindness. His life teaches us that holiness is not reserved for priests, religious, or people who live far from the modern world. We can follow Jesus in our homes, schools, workplaces, and daily responsibilities.
In October 2006, Carlo was diagnosed with leukemia. He offered his suffering for the Pope and the Church, facing his illness with remarkable faith. He died on October 12, 2006, at the age of fifteen. He was canonized by Pope Leo XIV on September 7, 2025.
Today, Saint Carlo Acutis is an example for young people and for everyone who wishes to use their talents in the service of God.
What Can We Learn from Saint Carlo Acutis?
Saint Carlo teaches us three important lessons:
- Love Jesus in the Eucharist. Make time for Holy Mass, prayer, and adoration whenever possible.
- Use your gifts for God’s glory. Whatever talents God has given you, use them to serve others and share the Gospel.
- Seek holiness in everyday life. Small acts of charity, kindness, honesty, and sacrifice can bring us closer to Christ.
Let us ask Saint Carlo Acutis to intercede for young people, students, families, and all those who use the internet and technology. May his example inspire us to choose Christ above all things.
